From Nature With Love: {Rose Hip Oil}

Where does it come from?
Rose hip oil comes from the round red fruit of the rose after the petals have fallen off.

Why is it so good?
It is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin A (known in it's synthetic form as retinol), Linolenic acid (an omega 3 fatty acid),  Oleic acid (an omega 9 fatty acid) and more!

What are the benefits of rose hip oil?
Well it has been shown to help in the following:
*rehydrating the skin
*improve scars from psoriasis, eczema, acne and chickenpox
*premature ageing
*stretch marks
*skin damage caused by sun exposure
*skin tone
*skin burns, including sunburn

My mum left me some when she came to visit a little while back and I have been trying to use it every night but that doesn't always happen, so it is hard to say that I have seen results. However I do love the feeling of massaging it into my face at night when I do think of it.

Have you ever tried it? I'd love to know what you think of it!

The Chill is Setting in!

Over here in the Southern Hemisphere winter is creeping in. There is a chill in the air, the nights are getting cooler, I'm pulling out scarfs and knit coats and even trying to learn to knit and I really want to purchase some boots!... Ok, ok so I live in the tropics, it doesn't get that bad. But it is still there I'm telling you! When you have adapted to the constant hot, humid summers (which last most of the year) you really do notice it when the temperature does drop for a few months. This week is predicted to be 15 degrees C!

So as this season (that hardly even exists here) approaches, I'm drooling over pictures of cozy knits and boots with leggings and nice warm coats!

Here are a few that I love...

Bonne semaine.

Fun Fact Friday...

I Love rhino's!

I went to a game park in South Africa in 2007 and just fell in love with them. I could have watched them all day long!

Did you know that of 30 species that used to walk the earth, now only 5 species remain? And they are all endangered!

And how could you not fall in love with this little one??

Happy Friday and hope you have a great weekend!

Dreaming of a far away land...

..with beautiful white sand and crystal clear water beaches, where the horizon is dotted with coconut trees,

where after watching an amazing sunset you get out a torch or light a lantern, where travel by boat to do grocery shopping is normal, people smile and say good morning,

where showers are cold and running water is a luxury, where clothes washing involves scooping water out of a well and using a big dish on the ground,

where culture is rich and time...everyone has all the time in the world!

Yes I miss this place, with all my heart! It captured my heart before the plane even landed back in 2004 and it's grip just got tighter over time! Not knowing when I will be there next is torture!

On it's way...

This little cotton P.J top I made has just recently been sent off to a lovely friend. I really hope she likes it!

It's a pillowcase design but I decided to put a little split in the front for the ties instead of having them tie over the shoulder. I also used stretch lace under the bust just to bring it in a bit and give some more shape.

New Beginnings...

Hi!

I'm Katie, welcome to my blog 'Sipping~Coconuts'.

"Why Sipping~Coconuts? "You ask... Well, back in 2006 I set off on a three week camp to Vanuatu (If you're now asking "where in the world is that?" do a Google search...it's much more fun for you to find out for yourself. And for even more fun do a search on Google Images!) I had already been to Vanuatu a few times before and it had captured my heart! By the end of three weeks I had decided to stay another six months. Lots of people asked me if I sat on the beach sipping on coconuts all day.

The day I left for Vanuatu was the beginning of a new journey for me. One that no one, myself included, would have dreamed I would end up on. Some days I still think it must all be a dream!

That six months I ended up staying for turned into three years! That three years brought about a boyfriend and then a marriage proposal, a move to a new country, a new language to learn and generally just a new start.

So this is the first step of more new things, exciting things to come as I continue in this journey.

Come and join me.
